This Sunday is the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In today’s Gospel reading (Matthew 21:28-32), Our Blessed Lord calls the chief priests and elders of the people to task. He tells them, "What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' He said in reply, 'I will not, ' but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, 'Yes, sir, ‘but did not go. Which of the two did his father's will?" They answered, "The first."
This Sunday is the Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Gospel comes to us from Matthew 20:1-16a. Jesus tells his disciples a parable about a generous landowner. He hires laborers at dawn, at nine o’clock, at noon, at three in the afternoon and at five o’clock. At the end of the day, he pays all of the laborers the same wage. Those hired first were not pleased with this. The landowner, however, has cheated no one. Those hired first agreed to work for the usual daily wage. They received the agreed upon wage. The landowner is free to do as he wishes with his money. He is free to be generous to those hired later in the day.

This Sunday marks the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The first reading from Sirach (27:30 – 28:9) and the Gospel reading from Matthew (18:21-35) both speak to us of the need for forgiveness. More specifically, we cannot ask the Lord to forgive us if we are unwilling to forgive others.
This Sunday is the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. All three readings speak to us of the need for us to care for one another. The prophet Ezekiel (33:7-9) is called to speak God’s word to “the house of Israel.” Some will accept it and others will not. Nevertheless, Ezekiel’s mission is to “warn them” and “speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way.”
