First Communion is the name given to a persons first reception of the sacrament of Eucharist.  It is
typically received by children around the age of seven or eight.  At St. Mary it takes place during second
grade following the sacrament of Reconcilliation, but can also take place during the Easter Vigil when an
adult enters the church through R.C.I.A.

It is a very significant event - the child or adult takes a place at the Lord's table and shares in the Body
and Blood of Christ.  As such, at St. Mary the First Communion takes place either at a special Mass for
this event or during a regular weekend Mass - the same one that the child's family would attend.
